If you're out on the ice with friends, fishing, and looking for a meal that's both refreshing and filling, these Crispy Fish Tacos are the perfect choice. Easy to prep ahead and incredibly delicious, they're made with crispy fish, a creamy avocado sauce packed with protein, and a vibrant slaw that brings a fresh crunch. Whether you’re in the cozy warmth of your cabin or braving the elements on the ice, this meal will keep you energized and satisfied.

Ingredients:

For the Fish Tacos:
Kupilka White Fish
4 fish fillets (I went with crappie, but any white fish works great)
Fish crisp of your choosing (I love a simple, crispy coating for texture)
8 taco-sized tortillas (choose your favourite kind—corn or flour both work well)

For the Vibrant Slaw:
Kupilka Slaw
1 cup green cabbage, shredded
1 cup red cabbage, shredded
½ cup cilantro, chopped
1 tbsp olive oil
Juice of 1 lime
Salt to taste

For the Avocado Sauce:
2 small avocados (or 1 large)
¾ cup cottage cheese (for that creamy texture and extra protein)
3 tbsp avocado oil
Juice of 2 limes
½ cup parsley
1 tsp cumin
Salt to taste

Kupilka Jalapenos

Directions:

1. Fry the Fish:
Heat some cooking oil in a pan (I like using avocado oil for extra flavor). Test the heat by dropping a small piece of fish into the pan. Once it’s hot enough, add the rest of your coated fillets. Fry until the fish is crispy and cooked through, which will vary based on the size and type of fish you use. For crappie, it usually takes about 3-4 minutes per side.

2. Make the Avocado Sauce:
This sauce is so simple and can be made ahead of time. Throw all the ingredients (avocados, cottage cheese, avocado oil, lime juice, parsley, cumin, and salt) into a blender and blend until smooth. Taste and adjust the seasoning as needed. Pro tip: I often make this the night before, so I can just grab it when I'm out on the ice and ready to eat!

3. Prepare the Slaw:
This crunchy, refreshing slaw comes together in a flash. Just combine the green cabbage, red cabbage, cilantro, olive oil, lime juice, and salt in a bowl. Toss everything together and set it aside. Like the avocado sauce, I usually prep this the night before to save time and keep things easy on the ice.

4. Assemble the Tacos:
Warm your tortillas, then spread a generous amount of the creamy avocado sauce on each one. Add a few pieces of crispy fish, top with the vibrant slaw, and finish it off with a little extra avocado sauce. If you like a bit of heat, toss in some homemade salsa and sliced jalapenos.

These Crispy Fish Tacos are perfect for enjoying by the fire after a long day of fishing. The crispy fish, creamy avocado sauce, and refreshing slaw make for a meal that’s both satisfying and full of flavour. Whether you're sitting in a cozy shelter on the ice or gathered around a bonfire, this meal will hit the spot every time!

So, grab your fishing crew and give these a try next time you’re out on the ice. You’ll be hooked!
