350 Years Of Craftsmanship: The Müller Legacy

For 350 years, the Müller family has been forging tools with a dedication to craftsmanship that spans 14 generations. What began in 1675 as a humble blacksmith operation has evolved into a globally respected brand that merges time-honoured tradition with modern innovation—and a deep commitment to sustainability.
A Legacy Forged in Fire: The Müller Timeline
1675
Peter Müller, a skilled tool and pick-smith, began crafting pickaxes, wedges, and mattocks in Steindorf, in the Murau district of Styria, Austria. It marked the beginning of what would become a centuries-long family legacy.
1785
Martin Müller relocated the company to Turrach, then a thriving hub of iron and steel production—positioning Müller at the heart of the metalworking world.
1884
Bartholomäus Müller moved operations to Himmelberg, Carinthia, where the Tiebel stream ensured year-round water flow. His goal: stay true to tradition while adapting ahead of industrialization.
1917
After a devastating fire destroyed the forge, Leonhard Müller didn’t stop. He moved production to a disused hammer mill in Frantschach-St. Gertraud, complete with its own railway connection and hydroelectric turbine—ushering in an era of self-sufficient, sustainable production.
1929
Despite a surge in business, the global recession hit hard. The company was reduced to just Leonhard and his 17-year-old son. They kept forging, filling storage rooms to the brim, paving the way for a post-war rebirth under Leonhard’s three sons.
966
The first Müller catalogue was released, showcasing both the innovation and the diversity of its product range.
1989
The 13th generation took the helm, with the sons of Josef, Hans, and Erwin carrying the tradition forward.
2024
A new chapter begins: Lisa-Marie Müller steps into leadership, becoming the first woman to manage the company. As the 14th generation, she embodies Müller’s enduring spirit—where tradition and modern leadership meet.
Built to Last: Sustainability at Müller
At Müller, sustainability isn't a buzzword—it's a core value embedded in every step of production. Their commitment begins with quality: by creating tools that last for decades, they reduce waste and conserve natural resources.

- Locally Sourced Materials
Every tool is crafted from Austrian tool steel, made from ore mined in the mountains surrounding the Müller headquarters. This steel is known for its exceptional toughness, giving each tool a long and dependable life. - Responsibly Harvested Wood
Tool handles are made from hand-selected mountain ash sourced from nearby forests. Strong yet elastic, it absorbs shock and reduces joint strain—an ergonomic and eco-conscious choice. - Premium Leather Protection
Even the edge protectors are thoughtfully crafted. Made by a local cobbler using sustainably sourced leather, they preserve blade sharpness and enhance safety. - Renewable Energy, Generations in the Making
For centuries, the Müllers have used water power in their forges. Today, their own hydroelectric plant provides clean energy to power operations—equipped with a fish ladder to preserve the local ecosystem. - Close to Home
All suppliers are carefully chosen from within Austria. This not only guarantees top-tier quality but keeps transportation emissions low, supporting a smaller carbon footprint.
Quality You Can Trust
Müller tools undergo continuous quality checks by independent testing institutes, ensuring each piece reflects centuries of precision and pride. With every swing of a Müller axe or hammer, you’re holding more than a tool—you’re holding a legacy.
